NFL vs THE FANS
As the NFL draft around the corner this lock out seems to linger over the american fans head. Its become clear that the NFL would risk losing its fan and damaging the a 9 billion dollar idustry just what appears to be greed. I dont know the ins and outs of it nor do i despute the owners are great bussinessmen, how else would could they afford a team, but i am an avid NFL fan. I know more about the NFL then most people and love the Dallas Cowboys to a fault. All and all i am a football fan in the fullest extent; I buy jerseys, attend games, have the NFL package on direct TV, hell i have interior in my truck custom silver and blue leather with tom landrys face airbrushed in the dash with the superbowl trophies, so little to say my fan hood could not be questioned but this locked out has turned me off. I hate to think what this lockout has done to the every day fan if some one would lives and breaths this sport refuses to buy NFL gear. When you see the NFL trying to hold out with the intent to miss game to make the players fill the pressure in thier pocket books, It makes you think that they could care less about the fans when we are the ones who make the sport. I am in the Navy so there are very few things that i can hold on to being that i am gone most of the time. 6 month deployment, work ups, certs, inspection, training cycle, under manning, budget cut, is just the work side, and the constantly gone from your family is the hardest part. The NFL gives me a since of normality being that i watched as a kid with my family it gives me somthing to hold on to. This lock out pits the NFL against the players and worst of all the fans. The draft is going down and i want to take patrick peterson or von miller even though they are a little out of the range of the cowboys draft slot, but none matter who they pick if they dont settle the "millionaires vs billionaires" then it wont matter. Look at what happened to baseball after 1994, the whole sport almost went bankrupt. I rest my case

I agree with you from a fans point of view that this lock out just sucks. As a 49er fan, I want the same players as you. Patrick Peterson is just a freak and what Von Miller did to the Sooners this past year makes me a believer. I won't even going into the PEDS issue with you but I love watching freaks and both of these guys are just that! Even though we may never see the money that these players or owners make, I feel they do have to work out some issues for the better part of the game. There are a few issues on why there is even a lockout and you're right, it's rich people fighting over money.
ReplyDelete18 game season. The owners want to add two more games to make more money, sell more tickets, and more TV revenue but don't want to pay the players more in salary. I like the 16 game season but if the owners wants to make more money by adding two more games, I think it's fair to give the players also more money. That's two more games of wear and tear on an athletes body. They can't play forever and they risk their lives on every single down.
Salary cap. The salary cap is designed to keep every team on a even playing field. The smaller market teams just don't generate the amount to revenue large market teams can like the New York teams. So the arguing is over what should the salary cap be. Players want it higher so they can earn more and owners want it lower so they pockets more money. This is the rich people fighting with rich people. Some things just aren't fair. I'm on the fence with this one.
Rookie Salary cap. It's crazy that Sam Bradford got 50 million guaranteed without even stepping foot on the field. He's a Sooner though so he deserves it!! =) but seriously, there's no way a rookie should be making more that 95 percent of the players on the team. One bad pick dooms the franchise for years for example, the 49ers picking Alex Smith with the first pick in 2005. Five years later, we still suck because of all the guaranteed money he got, we had no choice but to stick with him.
Revenue sharing and financial information. The players want to know who much the team has made and based off that, they try to determine what their value or worth is. Again rich people fighting with rich people. The owners don't want to give up that information. Can you or I go to our bosses and ask them how much they make? Then based on what they make then negotiate our pay raises or next years pay? Professional sports is just a different world.
The players bring the fans. Their performance and their personalities make the game. They are the best at what they do. They deserve to get paid what they can because there's not a lot of Adrian Petersons, Peyton Mannings, Julius Peppers, and Larry Fitzgeralds running around. Their careers are short, relatively speaking, so I can see why they are trying to get as much money as they can. The owners are still the employers though. They put what's out on the field. In everyday life, normal employees can't ask for such demands as what the NFL Players Association is asking. I don't know, if the lockout holds out the only losers are us, the fans!! =(
